GUIDE FOR JOB SEEKERS Free remote work contract template for Filipino freelancers A short, plain agreement you can send to an overseas client before you start work. Copy it, fill in the blanks, and agree on it together. Why a written agreement matters Many Filipino freelancers start a new job with nothing more than a chat message. That works until something goes wrong. Pay arrives late, or not at all. The tasks keep growing, but the pay stays the same. The client ends the work overnight, with no notice. Without anything in writing, it is hard to show what you agreed, and you have little recourse against a client abroad. A short written agreement will not solve every problem, but it sets clear terms before you start. It also gives you a record if there is a dispute later. Lawmakers are looking at this too. Senate Bill 1121, filed in August 2025, proposes new protections for freelancers. It is still a bill, not a law, so protect yourself now. What to put in writing • Parties: your full name and the client's name or company, with addresses and emails. • Role and scope: your job title and main tasks, and how extra work is agreed and paid. • Start date, hours and shift, in Manila time (PHT), and the days you work. • Pay amount and currency (PHP or USD), and whether it is per hour, per month or per project. • Pay schedule and method: your paydays, how you are paid (Wise, Payoneer, PayPal or bank), and who pays the transfer fees. • Paid time off and holidays: how many days off, and whether Philippine holidays are paid. • A 13th-month or year-end bonus, if you agreed one. • Equipment and internet: who provides the computer, and any internet or power allowance. • Trial period and test tasks: how long the trial lasts, and that test tasks are paid. • Confidentiality: what you must keep private. • Ownership of work: when the client owns what you make (usually once it is paid for). • Notice period: how many days' notice either side gives to end the work, and pay for work already done. • Disputes: how you will try to settle a disagreement. For remote work, a typed full name and date in a reply email, or a signed PDF, is common. Keep a copy of the final version somewhere safe. Save the messages where you agreed the terms, and keep your invoices and payment receipts. If an employer refuses to put anything in writing, treat that as a warning sign.
